New Meshell album

Just got it today, a little different but still Meshell with great bass playing, beautiful melodies and great session musicians. This is a little heavier than her previous two efforts. What do you guys think? I love it?

I like it, but then again the things I like about Meshell's music are usually the things others don't like.

I go this CD last week, and it is really growing on me! I fell in love with Meshell during her funky days in the early to mid nineties, and much of her later stuff has not done much for me. I feel that this CD is much more cohesive, and her playing of off the hook! She is the Queen of Tone! That grit she gets on "The Sloganeer: Paradise" is absolutely perfect, and her rounder tones on other songs are just typically great Meshell.

She also continues to be the ultimate female mack. The woman writes lusty loves songs with the best of them.

I saw her perform this album with her band 2 weeks ago at the Bass Player Live '06 concert. I thought it was heavy on the funk Rock tip but I enjoyed it. I'll probably pick it up this weekend.

I have had it a little while. Actually I bought it the day it arrived at my local Borders- not intentionally, but I was told it "just dropped" (ugh) by the cashier. It has a lot of personality. I've listened to the Comfort Woman album many times over and this is a different vibe. It doesn't have the round, hooky bass playing like some of her previous recordings. And, it isn't as "easy listening soul" as (for example) the "Rush Over" track. Tracks 4, 5, and 6 - taken together - is my favorite section.

+1,000. If anyone wants to hear the sound of a dirty passive bass that's a fine reference. I saw her play a few weeks ago and it was a great show...her drummer is off the charts.

Not my cup of tea. I want the funky Meshell back! I hope she hasn't totally abandoned her roots. I don't have a problem with being artsy and experimenting but it doesn't mean every record is going to be a good one.

Comfort woman is a bass players paradise, but this one highlights her writing and use of melody a little deeper. She's still deep on her lyrics too, which in todays crop of offerings is a very welcome thing.

For me, Cookie is the funkiest of all of her work. It's the closest thing to the Old school Funk IMO.

i saw her a few months ago before the album came out. i think it was the best me'shell concert i'd ever been to (i've only been to 4, tho). when she covered a joy division song, i nearly peed my pants.

the album is awesome. to me.

I really dig it too, nice "headphone" album. There are a few different bass tones on the album, and they all kill!
