NEW METALLICA SINGLE!!! The Day That Never Comes!!!

Meh... I guess if I ask myself... "Would I care about this if it wasn't a 'Metallica Song'", the answer is pretty much no. It's not good enough to crack my playlist on a normal day, so I'd say...

FAIL

What do I hate about it? First glance would be the drums, but I realized after listening to it a couple times ... it's actually the transitions and all the extra riffs. There's just seems to be unecessary stuff going on in parts, and parts that don't belong.

Listen to some of the epic 7-10 minute songs they've recorded in the past - what made them good was that the transitions made sense. They built up, broke down, breathed, and strangled you. This new song is like... I dunno, like they just threw in some riffs.

For example, the riff at 5:42 just seems... added, not really in-place. It doesn't flow. The riff at 6:12 does the same for me. It just doesn't seem like part of the same song.

I also listened to the other snippets from the website. Excerpt #3 sounds interesting, but the others are kinda' boring. I don't know if it's the drums or what, but something just sounds a little lazy and incomplete to me.

Dude, are you serious?: :eyebrow:

you know what.. i liked St. Anger.. when they played those songs live they were not that bad.. i just hate people who bash them for SA and this ONE song...people are already giving them ****..James will never sound like he once did..i love this song.. it's sick..and as i said on the other forum for this song..metallica has said this is the most mellow song on the record...people who give up hope on the band.. or ANY band are not true fans..thats my opinion for Gods sake.. are you going to argue my personal opinion...its just so immature seeing oh St. Anger sucked etc etc..sure alot of people may think this sure sure..but its just like people take pride in destroying that album..

St. Anger sucked, not just that song, but the whole album sucked hard in most peoples opinions. Lars and James whine all the friggin time. Lars is the most concieded dude I have ever seen, and thats coming from a Kiss Fan and a fan of Yngie Malmsteen. Lastly Metallica was made famous by the practice of tape sharing. They sued their fans for file sharing, which is the modern form of tape sharing. Yet they played at the DOWNLOAD festival.

They be some money hungry whiney little jerks and James cant sing or work a crowd for crap.

When you first get introduced to metal Metallica is a good band. Then you listen to more metal and realise Metallica is crap.

September 12th will hopefully change all the peoples minds who are already beginning this critizizing bs..if people are going to start already then i dont consider them the "Real" Metallica fans..
OK. I can live with out being known as a "real" fan of anything. As others have stated, I'm not impressed. I'll go one further, I was more impressed with St. Anger.

I expect they'll deliver what they promised: some old school Metallica inspired songs. We'll also get the unspoken other half of that promise: it'll sound strained and forced and they'll mix it with Load-style Metallica. Not my thing. In unrelated news, the Toadies have released a new album and I'm sure it's better.

lets keep an open mind and hear the whole album, I hope they can do some good.

But yah I think they lost it, they simply cannot regain that energy they had.

Hedfields voice is crap now IMO, thats the first blow.

2nd I dunno but i guess they don't practise as much as before the best musician there now is for sure trujillo.

I think they are proof a metal band can not go mainstream without losing it, the money, the scene all that crap its not going to inspire as much as it did before.

Bands like Anthrax, Overkill, Megadeth and Slayer are still making kick@$$ thrash because I think they still live in the scene, the purely metal scene where all that raw feel goes on.

Metal is about screaming out at society and being different and damn proud of it. Metallica got to deep in the mainstream.
