For those of you familiar with Rick Wilson and his awesome builds, you know how talented he is. Spent about 4 hours with him today discussing a new build. We picked out some wood, hardware, and such and work will begin soon.

Here's the beginning. More to come!

Here's Rick holding my new bass. Just think of it like an ultrasound of a baby. It's not born yet. :D

sandals in a wood shop..and he still has all of his toes

Pickups have been chosen!

Chatted with Carey Nordstrand today. He recommended his Big Blade 5 pickups based on my wants. Big shout out to Carey for taking time to chat with me today. I'm a small fish, but he took time to give me individual attention. Awesome!

Ordered the John East Uni-Pre 4 knob and it will be making its way across the pond soon.

Nordstrand pups and John East preamp are a great combo!!!
Yes indeed! I am currently selling a Jazz V with Nordstrand hum cancelling pickups and a John East J-Retro. I have a Lakland 55-02 with a John East Uni-Pre and Nordstrand pickups. I'm very fond of that combination. :smug:

I have a Kinal MK5B with Nordstrand NP5/NJ5SE combo and East preamp. I’ve had East pres on other basses too, and have a few other basses with Nordstrand pups...my favorites. Recommend using the 18v (two batteries) setup for increased headroom as opposed to a single 9v.

I have used all sorts of onboard preamps and all of them left me wanting something. I even tried the Pope preamp that Fodera uses, and that wasn't my cup of tea either. John East's stuff is not only top quality, it sounds fantastic. I have even used that sweepable mid control as a flanger. Crank up the mid boost, then sweep the mid control and you get a cool flanger effect...no pedal required. The pots and knobs have a great feel and just the right amount of resistance. The move almost like they are greased pots...so smooth. And the incredible adjustability! And that tone control which works in active or passive mode is wonderfully useful. I find that I use it quite a bit.

Cool...what did he build for you? I may have seen it at the shop. He is only 8.4 miles away from me, so I spent a few hours there Saturday. He showed me some really awesome stuff. He has some things in the works that are really innovative and cool. And his experience with Steinberger gives him some killer knowledge on headless stuff. He has some really cool basses. Mine will be more vintage looking since here in Nashville you must have an FS0 (Fender shaped object) to get some gigs.

Carey Nordstrand has made a big announcement. His Big Blade pickups will now be available in hum canceling versions! YEAH!!

Can't wait to get this build done and lay my hands on what I'm a sure will be an awesome bass! I'm like a little kid at Christmas!

On the odd front, it appears the tracking number for the preamp shows it's somewhere in Massachusetts.

Exchanged some emails with John East and there was a mix up with my preamp. It was sent to Massachusetts. John got it straightened out and tracking shows it's being delivered today. Thanks John (if you're watching...and you should be!).

So...now I enter the doldrums. The long, long wait until the work begins. Rick has some work in front of me and I have to wait my turn. I just keep reminding myself that I'm selling three "off the rack" basses because I want something made for me. With that comes the inevitable wait. Deep breath...patience. Ahhh....dammit...I still want it now! LOL!

I feel like Veruca Salt...LOL! :hyper: I too am a bad egg.
