New MXR pedals

Just so no one thinks I'm anti-MXR in any way...

In my defense Dunlop doesn't make a strobe tuner or a digital wireless unit. I should probably jump over to the MXR club and harass them.

Here's a little demo I slapped together of the Bass Chorus Deluxe using the sample setting "John Francis." The noise was awful while recording, but it didn't come out so terrible after the audio was exported and the track was normalized. If you're listening with headphones you can hear the static and hiss on every sweep of the chorus. Mind you there was no EQ, no compression, and my bass was in passive mode. Before normalization, the noise was twice as loud. Other than that, the flavor of the chorus is much to my liking.

awesome !!!!! now how about some samples of the bass overdrive now :) mines in the mail lol :bassist:

You asked and here it is. You'll definitely notice that warm is an accurate descriptor for the character of this overdrive. Most of you will probably enjoy the overall character of the pedal. I wish the clean blend wasn't so colored as fast runs tend to blur together a bit. I also cranked the drive way down, so this is fairly subtle for the pedal.

sweet !!!!!! thanks :bassist:

Yup, I've noticed this as well. It's a REALLY noisy pedal

I just came back from band practice, I took my new OD along. I've been using a Pork Loin as my OD for awhile, and as much as I love the sound of it, I was looking for something with a bit gain on tap. The new Bass Overdrive seems to me to be the ticket. I think it is fair to say it has a similar tone and gain structure as the PL. Dark but warm works is how I'd describe both. I will say that the Bass OD has a bit of the 'fizz' of the BFD at higher gain settings to my ears. I don't think thats a bad thing, but I know some have said they hear it and others haven't, I fall into the former camp.

The blend is nice, there's not much use for it if playing solo or with recorded music, but in the full band setting it really stood out. It helped to cut through the two guitars in my band. I didn't feel as thought I was fighting with the pre-set EQ either.

I'm still on the fence, but at this point I think if I had to choose, for my needs I'd take the OD over the PL. If you're looking for something to run all the time as a preamp, or maybe something with light gain, go with the PL, but for a dedicated overdrive, the Bass Overdrive wins out. Not that either one won't work for both, but I think they each fall into a niche.

I also saw the Chorus video, sounds great and it is giving me some bad GAS. Can't wait to see the OD video from Juan soon!

So, is the chorus worth it or not with the noise problems? Just saw Juan Alderete's demo and it sounded fantastic but it's too expensive of a pedal to get if there are noise issues.

I think it depends on your rig and your ears some people hear it and some don't. I can't hear it with my setup and most people that can say that in a band situation it would be unnoticeable. So it is hard to say if its worth it for you it is one if those things you might have to try out and see if you like it or not shop somewhere with a good return policy.

Although, I've had a lot of gripes about the noise level compared to other chorus pedals MXR manufactures, it is still velcroed to my board. Used in a band context, you will most likely never notice. Solo bass recordings and by yourself at home are another story depending on your rig and amp settings. So overall, I'd say the pedal is still worth a shot.
