New neck for my CIJ Geddy?

If you mostly play a P and want more heft, why not just find a nice P neck?

I have an '03 American maple fretboard, '22 USA Geddy and a '15 Japan rosewood fretboard and favor the Japan(blue one). I did put Custom Shop pickups in it. I had a Japanese Geddy years ago, but the neck was too thin.

For the record, I really do love my CIJ Geddy. Have had it for almost 20 years, and we have some history. It does sound great. All that said, I've never loved the neck--it's very thin and I think the lack of heft does affect the sound.

How can you love a bass when you don't love its neck?

There is an engineer that made a video on youtube that built two guitars; one conventionally and the other without a body or even a neck. Both "guitars" sound the same. Another guy built a strat with a body and neck made out of concrete. Sounds like any other strat.

But you can hear enough difference between two nearly identical wooden necks to the extent that it makes you want to replace the neck on a bass that you really love and think already sounds great?

The two necks are not identical, they feel very different--I clearly prefer the feel of one over the other - and I can hear a difference between the two Jazzes that otherwise are quite similar--same pickups, 70's spacing. But sure, go ahead and bust my balls.

Excuse me, sorry I guess I used the word "love" too loosely. OK, I really really like the damn bass except for the neck. Acceptable?

I have a modified CIJ Geddy, circa 2007 which has been my daily driver for almost a year. I upgraded the hardware (among other things) and I've had no issues. It holds a tune quite well too.
