New nut?

When I hit (I play with a pick) my E string relatively hard, it pops out of the nut! Its so irritating! I have a Fender P bass...Do you think I need a new nut?

I highly recommend doing this to someone who knows what they're doing. (take it to your local guitar shop)

But, just make the groove that's in the nut a bit deeper.

Maybe that may help. I don't really know, though.
