Hello all,
I'm rejoining the bass world after almost 10 year of minimal attendance. I decided it would be good for my soul to find my way back to the groove.
I started with piano lessons at age nine and played classical, folk, and jazz for a decade, but I always wanted to grow up to become Steve Harris. So after I went to college, I started playing bass in the early '90s. I did a bit of backing work, and a few live shows; however, it would be fair to classify me as a talented dabbler. I never had formal bass training, and my practice was unstructured. I had fun though.
Fast forward to the mid-2000s and career and family took priority. Life happens, the guitars gathered dust, and the pots got scratchy from disuse.
Now I'm at the age where I'm trying to offload all things in my life that are toxic and unhealthy -- habits, people, patterns, thoughts, etc., to make room for better, healthier, and more fulfilling things. It was time to put fresh strings on, minimize the rigs, replace the flashy effects with modern more useful versions, and get some structure to learn things over again.
I have signed up at StudyBass.com, and because your peers can make and break your habits, I also signed up here. It will take me a while get through all the Newbie links and material and to find my way around, but step one was to say g'day and I'm grateful to be among you.
Tom
