I haven't had any problems with mine but I haven't gigged it. It's not dark sounding through either my GB 1288Ts or EV TL405s, so perhaps your perception is due to voicing of the OB810. Max out the master and mine sounds and responds very similar to a blackface Fender Showman (or Twin Reverb).

I have a Matamp GT120. I believe the vintage GT200 used pretty much the same preamp. IMHO, the AD200B is definitely more Fender than Matamp.

Very well could be that component failed. I'd hope that has been addressed in the newest version. And the cabinet certainly could have been the issue with how it sounds, I am used to playing bright amps through faily bright cabs, mostly JBL loaded 15s, 4x12s, and then the Acoustic 301. Funny enough, I've used the official Orange model of the amp in Amplitube, and it sounded similar, although a bit more defined, and is useful as a model for low end/neck pickup in a stereo/bi-amp set-up.

That's kinda my sticking point with the AD200, it's more Fender than it is classic Matamp/Orange, and frankly if I wanted Fender, I'd go with the Super Bassman. I'd be much more interested if Orange released an OR200, based on the more classic Matamp/Orange circuit.

i have said the same thing for a long time as well. i used to be endorsed by orange and told my rep that as well many times. i think it's a cost/difficulty thing or something, it seems Ade Emsley (the designer) has no interest in doing anything Old/Reissue. I don't understand it, because i would think they would sell a lot of OR80/OR120 models if they announced it, but i'm just a bassist.

Well that's a bit disappointing to hear. I agree, I would think maybe not mot, but a LOT of folks would want to see proper reissues of the Pics only OR80 and 120, and an OR200 for bass. Seems to be that would be an easy sell, but I guess that's why I'm not running a company.

Agreed that the AD200B is not dark sounding.

I think it's pretty bright really. Unlike me.

And the passive EQ is, again in my opinion, very useable.
Sure you cannot boost a section, but the scope or range is such that it will certainly allow you to go from bright n clanky to dark and pretty muffled.

What it won't do is boost the bass, for example, so it really booms out and be extra "solid". You get that from the amp itself.
With the gain and volume adjusted how you like, (they're very interactive), and the EQ set NEAR the "flat" (10,2,10) it's very sweet.
As you say, quite like the old Fender Bassmans.
I spent a lot of years playing thru a 70s Bassman 100,
It's a cool sound

My sights then turned to possibly the Terror Bass 500 (or 1000 but more so likely the 500) and recently I had the chance to pull the trigger on a 500 but for whatever reason a voice in my head stopped me and told me to stick with my GK 800RB right now...

I believe there is an AD200B in the TB classifieds for $1300. That's the lowest price I remember seeing.

Every so often I would see them in the lower $1000's range, but rarely not lower than that unless it had issues or did not work but even then. That voice in my head keeps telling me to stay away from the GAS temptations and stick with my GK 800RB. It could also be my wallet telling me I don't need to make another "big" purchase right now too

Hi,

I was wondering has anyone pulled the trigger on the new Orange AD200 head and cabs that are now loaded with the Celestion Pulse XL.

So at first look. It does not appear to be that much different than the MK3. Simultaneously they have not incorporated a DI out. It appears the have raised the price to $2700 and the 4x10 cab is 600w at 8homs and costs $1500 and the 1x5 is 400w at 8homs and cost $999. To run this rig at 4ohms you’d have to buy the head and both cabs which will set you back about $6000.

Orange amps and cabs sound amazing. However has anyone bought this new set up and if so is it worth the cost?

Or do you think this price for any amp and cab is way too much in today’s market.

Thoughts?

Did you end up getting the new AD200? If so, how does it sound?
