Hard to quantify. I think it may be new string related. I probably should have kept them on longer.

Interesting, that's the opposite of what I would. I'm thinking of swapping out the perp g for an obligato. After a couple months the perp g is still a bit whiny on my bass. I'm sure Patitucci makes it sound great.

For me the problem with the G wasn't the tone, that I liked, but its thinness. The Oliv G feels much better under my hands...and also sounds better to my ears.
This thread talked me into picking up a set of Perpetuals second hand. I've had them on for about a week, and played a show with them last night. I mostly play roots music, so pizz sound is of most importance. I pick up the bow mostly just for my own practice.
I like them. That low E really sings, in fact it's almost a little too energetic on my bass. I'm going to have adjust my technique so the strings don't sustain a bit too much. Playing them at home I thought they were going to be too bright, but on the actual gig I ended up liking the sound. I'm coming to these from Zyex Mediums, the Perpetuals are brighter, a tad looser, and for me MUCH easier and satisfying to bow.
Need some more time on them but I like them so far.

So I took the Perpetuals I had previously on my laminate King Mortone (I went back to my Spiro/Obligato set) and put them onto my fully carved Kolstein Guarneri (replacing my Spiro/Flex Deluxe set). My initial impression is that I like them way better on this bass, and might even go so far to think this might be the best set for that particular bass. I have been looking for a hybrid set that works well for the Rabbath thing but that has more volume and projection than Corelli 370F without being much tighter. I also wanted something that works for jazz pizz. I think this set might just be the right ones for this bass. The moral of the story is sometimes one set of strings might not sound or feel right on one instrument but on another instrument it might be just right!
Honestly I’m blown away at how these strings feel and respond on my fully carved bass. They sing under the bow yet still feel soft like Corellis and pizz like Spirocores!

How is the LH feel of the G string. At .047", it is .009" thinner that the (.058") Evah P. Weich that I'm using and liking now. I'm not sure I can make that adjustment.
How is the (pizz and arco) sound of the G string - is it Thin & Whiny like a Weich Spiro G? I loathe and despise the Spiro G string - pizz AND arco.
(Your collective Pirastro Perpetual Peer Pressure has driven me to Gollihur's website and I've loaded my Shopping Cart there with $243.00 of P. Perpetual strings. (Long E/C needed for an extension.)

Ok so the sound is still bright. It'll take time to break into a good arco sound but not bad. Evahs I get a huge warm sound after a day, spiros 6 months, these a month or so, but not evah dark. G string pizz, the sound is so much more full on my bass than the spirocore medium or light G strings. If you don't enjoy them I'll buy the set from you down the line.
I have already converted one of my fellow FSU students to theses strings. He shipped them to my house as hes currently out of town...lord stop me from putting them on one of my other basses.
I just swapped the perp G for an obligato G today and like it better so far. The perp G stuck out from the rest of the set on my bass. It was still a bit bright and whiny after a couple months of play. The obli g seems to be blending with the rest of the set which have darkened some.
The perp G wasn't terrible - I could have lived with it and I could see it being fine on a different bass. The upper mids just kind of jumped out in a way that was different from the rest of the set.

I don't know who's bass it was, but when I saw Larry Grenadier at the Whale a few weeks ago the bass he was using seemed to have Perpetuals on E A D and an Oliv on G. Sounded lovely, but then again it was Larry Grenadier. Wonder how either an Innovation Braided or Polychrome G would sound with the Perpetuals? I really dug a Spiro Weich E A and Innovation Braided D G combo I used for a year. Plenty more dynamics and colors in that G string than an Evah.
It depends on your bass and what you’re going for. I like Obligatos better on my King Mortone plywood but digging the Perpetuals on my fully carved Kolstein Guarneri.
So, It's not just me.
A thin & whiny feeling and sounding G string can be an issue with Perpetuals, as well as Spiros.

Howdy Don. As we always say here on TB YMMV. The Perps still sound great on my bass and I would not call the G whiny at all. I think it blends perfectly with the set.
But, but... what about the "feel"?? It's so THIN (.047) compared to my current G (.058).

All I can say is that they feel fine to me. Including the G. The perps are much more 'supple' than whatever I have on my other bass (which I think are Zyex). These strings just seem to bring out the very best in my bass and they feel really nice under the fingers - both hands. In the unlikely event you don't like them you shouldn't have much difficulty re-selling them for almost as much as you paid.
