New PJ Mustang at Summer NAMM

My CIJ Jaguar bass didn't come with one and it was about $150 more than the new Mustang when I bought it.

A good example.

That was my first thought.

Glad I got mine.

They seem to be a popular seller, but I've seen a lot of used ones up for sale too.

My local Guitar Center has had at least five that I know of of the blue ones. I kept telling them if they got a Torino Red one in I would probably buy it. And of course I get the " we can order one for you ".

Last time they told me that I said " so can you ".
:meh:

At this point I've lost interest. Especially since they raised the price.

I tried the Fender Mustang "Urban" (!) gig bag...I guess it will protect the finish. After the first gig I played with the bass, I left it laying on stage in said gig bag "just for a minute"--turned back to look and saw the (big) drummer nearly stepping on it while casing his kit. AAAhhhh! Rut-roh! Gig bag sent back. Now what? Luckily I just found this: The bass fits snugly in a Gator TSA-ATA regular size hard shell bass case, $130-140. Yes there is room above and below, but the upper horn and headstock radius anchor it in place. Here is a pic. Safe from Drumbo!

...
Just ordered a second one, this time in Torino Red. It will be converted to fretless. Fraternal twins!

This is kind of cool, that's the actual bass Sweetwater is shipping to me. They didn't send me pictures of the Sonic Blue one (probably because I'd been waiting months and they wanted to ship it immediately).

Cool - there's a few of us here that have blue and red twins. Here's mine:

I guess here in Europe the Mustang PJ is no longer available. The Thomann web site is listing all three colour options as out of stock, they usually do so before removing the articles from their web site.
Considering Summer NAMM will take place in about a month and also considering the CITES ban on all rosewood, maybe Fender will issue new MIM Mustang models with either pao-ferro or maple fretboards, or perhaps a MIA Mustang. Just guessing.

Things are happening quickly. I went again on the Thoman web site and now they have them again, with no pictures and a price increase, 599€, and the descriptions say "pau ferro fretboard". I would have hoped for maple fretboards, but who knows, maybe pau ferro will turn out to be a great wood for fretboards.
