Question for those who own the Mustang PJ.

How low can the pickups be adjusted on these ? Flush with the pickguard ?

Would you really want them flush with the guard? I own one but have not tried that far because why would I lol? What reason would you want them to be able to do that? Truly wondering

I would not want them flush with the pickguard. I need to know if the jazz pup cavity is deep enough for a stacked SD Classic.

I think you could just remove the pad underneath and be ok. You can use springs or those rubber pads that go around the screw instead.

The sonic blue on the Mustang looks more like the "faded" sonic blue, same color as the 60s Baja Tele re-issue. It looks more off-white to me. The Strat here is what the sonic blue should look like and what I wish my Mustang looked like.

I wish it was a little darker blue. It does look off-white.

The heaviness of the smaller bodied bass is definitely a concern. I notice that Fender does not state what type of wood the Mustang body is made of, whereas they do state the maple and rosewood neck. For their other basses they always state body/neck woods. It leads me to believe that it is some composite 'wood' materials. What I look for is resonance regardless of wood and balance overall. In the case of these you might be able to lessen the weight by a one pound at most with Hipshot or Gotoh ultralite bridge or keys, or a Babicz bridge.

Have you noticed a slight neck dive?

I ran across a sonic blue one at GC over the weekend and thought it was pretty cool. I haven't owned a Mustang (or short scale) since my first bass when I was 12, and I totally dwarfed the thing! I overreached all the fingering positions and found myself playing right at the bridge on my right hand. With some practice, that would go away.

Anyhow, I thought it was pretty comfortable and I was surprised at how much I really loved all the tones! Like the video that was just posted, I found myself spending a lot of time in the bridge pickup position, which I surprising for me, as bridge single-cool sound is usually not my thing. Love the switch, love all three tones, and I adored the color scheme. I experienced no rattles, switch popping noises, etc. It was just a plain, fun bass.

The negatives: it does neck dive somewhat. I tested it on a leather strap which seemed to solve that issue. It is definitely noticeable when sitting. The other negatives were all setup related. The fret edges were razor blades and the pickup heights were really goofy.

The slight neck dive does bother me. What kind of leather strap are you using?

Cause if there's a tort one somewhere I'll go white....if not, blue.

Whatever GC handed me. It was nothing special. I'm 100% sure that ultralight tuners would completely solve the issue.

The Levy M4 leather strap is a good bargain for less than $25 (Sweetwater). 3.5"wide, one ply, no stitching to come loose, rough on the back side. I got several .

It will not fit in a guitar bag. I have put it in Bass bags that are a bit too big for it. If it came with a case, it would be $749 instead of $549.

The hard case costs more than the P or J cases. This is how Fender gets us, similar to how Apple manipulates their accessories for the sell. The positive is that both will fit the Mustang like a glove, and that is important. I am in love with the Mustang, and would like to take it out of the house.

It looks like they still aren't keeping continuous stock of these so be prepared to wait a bit. I ordered it in January and got it at the end of April. I was hoping they had them now, but that's not what the site is showing.

Have that for my Jag SS. Good to know. The only shortfall to the bag is the outside pocket will not zip shut with a music book inside.

I have the hard case for the MustangPJ. It's a decent solid case. There a number of MIM Basses that should at least come with a gig bag, that cost more than the Mustang PJ.

My CIJ Jaguar bass didn't come with one and it was about $150 more than the new Mustang when I bought it.
