Well, I think I'm going to have to post a rebuttal video to that review. Someone commented that the B sounds hollow. First of all, consider where the pickup is located under the B string... pretty close to the neck. I would wager that most guys playing 5 strings are using two pickup models, or perhaps one pickup in a bridge position, like a MM. If you take any 2 pickup 5 string and use just the front pickup - particularly if it's a single coil - the tone is definitely what I would call "hollow". It's mostly a product of the pickup placement. The string response on the bass is not the issue, nor is the relative volume.
However, I do think the tone on the video review I posted could have been better. I've recently started recording the audio of my video reviews into Protools instead of using the crappy mic built in to the camera. The P5 was one of the last ones I did that way. I'll try to shoot a short clip of the P5 recorded direct. This bass has a great B string, I liked it so much that I bought it rather than send it back. I've used it on many gigs and continue to love playing it.
I also just reviewed the Am Std. Jazz 5 for the Bass Emporium newsletter, it should be up on their site in a few days, complete with 6 recorded samples. Another winner!
