I picked up this OLP yesterday. I think it will be a perfect fixer upper.......any thoughts on modding are welcomed.

What don't you like about the way it is now?
My first thought was to do a re-fin.....it's pretty scratched up. It plays really good though
Ya? If you have the skills and the means, go for it. I'd probably try to find a black pick guard and call it a day but I'm lazy and have no mechanical skills.
If it were me, I'd immediately throw in a Nordstrand pickup and preamp. Sand the headstock to a natural finish. Maybe replace the tuners.
Yeah I can do the re-fin myself on the cheap....but, yes I was think about swapping the pg
I was thinking about adding a pre. and or changing the pup to. First though I need to change the strings and set it up a little better, then I'll see were I'm at with it

Ya....a matching head stock only looks good when the whole neck is painted, IMO. When only the front is painted it looks half done.
Oh for sure.....that's got to be my first priority
Really though, I like to mod as a hobbie. So I try to find good candidates and kinda go from there......

I wouldn't re-finish it unless I was going to bare wood & then give it a natural finish.
I would put in another humbucker & make it V/V/T.
(Maybe not, I think those controls are already V/V/T for each coil of the humbucker.
If it has enough oomph as is, then I wouldn't bother with another pickup.)
After adding that humbucker, you can get a pearloid or tort guard for it.
Buy the PG first, so you know where to route for the pickup.
Actually, have you looked under the PG? It might already be routed for another pickup.
Oh, I would also wire the humbuckers in series using 1 MegOhm Linear taper pots for volume & a 500k Ohm Audio taper pot for treble cut.
Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to do that^, since it's probably routed from the pickup to the controls on the front.
If possible though, this^ is how I would make it look, instead of that big PG that goes all the way from the controls to the neck heel.

Definitely do a careful setup and play it for awhile first so you know exactly what you have to work with. Do that before you start putting additional time and money into it.
After that, if it plays well and the neck seems stable, go for it!

I had one of these and the only thing that I did was a series/parallel mod. It sounded really big when in series and it only needed a pot and some soldering. I imagine that it would sound even better with an active pre, but I am a passive guy, with passive basses and wired mice and keyboards.

How about getting a 4 string bridge and making it an old smoothie? Maybe an upgraded pre and pickup too...
I was thinking about swapping out the bridge, maybe a Badass, but I'm going to keep it a 5.......I figured I'd throw about $200.00 at it (maybe a little more) so well see how it pans out.....I'll be checking Reverb daily once I figure it out.
