New Punk.

rise against sounds to clean and practiced to be a good punk band in my eyes... I loved op ivy because they sucked you could tell when they were messing up but i loved the energy it felt like you were seeing them live. and i have heard those older rise against songs i had an ex who was way obsessed with them.
Fair enough. Op Ivy has to be one of my favorite bands, along with Rise Against. To each his or her own.
i love op ivy since we are on the topic of op ivy. last summer i got a tattoo of their seedy album cover. it seems like out of all my tattoos that one gets the most comments.
I'm lucky enough to live in a town that has an awesome studio where a lot of really cool punk bands have recorded and still record there. Plus a lot of the new school bands record there as well. So, I am always nosing around and checking out the new music and some of the great stuff recorded there in the past too.

Now I want to start a punk band again.
its got some old school hardcore touch to it. most of it leans towards punk, street punk, and alternative rock, but there are always a couple hardcore gems per album.
its gotten to a point where they were either going to progress in their songwriting or fall back into the masses of BILLIONS of punk bands that all sound the same and never make it.
i give you "bricks" from the sufferer and the witness

they proved to me that hardcore and punk bands CAN write music. they are almost proggy for a punk band

the ADTR and set your goals type bands are doing well these days to mend hardcore and pop punk.

ive recently been getting into christian metalcore bands like oh sleeper and inhale exhale.
it really depends on what you have the stomach for. i happen to be able to fit rise against, the unseen, a day to remember, gorilla biscuits and thrice all in my head at once. i can make a diagram of how they are all related, and you can make sub genres for every one if you like. but i just like them all.

Hell yeah man! These guys have been on my playlist since someone on TB started a thread about them.
Saw them on the 11th (with the Cobra Skulls and Broadway Calls, both good bands themselves, especially the Skulls). Such a good show. My 5th time seeing the Flats, and they killed it.
Their new album is really freaking good too...then again, with Gang vocals by Dillinger Four, and guest vocals on a track from Nuno (A Wilhelm Scream), it better be good. Brian from Wilhelm also does some guest bass on the album too, which is sweet.

What about Hardcore? Alot of hardcore is tight as ****. Plus there are plenty of bands like the Clash that are one of the original punk bands obviously, but after their first album their recordings are pretty tight.
one of my friends gave me career suicide. i normally ask a million questions when someone gives me music. he said "shut up, put it in, you'll thank me."
i did. he read me perfectly.
and then i saw them live. holy. poop. absolutely amazing.

Someone mentioned the "folk-punk" scene... IMO that's where it's at. Hot water Music and Against Me! being two of the better examples. They both have releases on a Florida label called No Idea records. There are other great bands on there, one of which has become one of my absolute favorite bands to listen to...
