apparently 5 string versions of rippers, grabbers, and thunderbirds(why they discontined them ill never know, would think the metal/rock market would love them, i know i do) make no sense but a oversized les paul boat anchor bass and a drag-queen EB-3 do...

o well i guess over pricing there guitars so grossly gives the big wigs enough extra cash to play practical jokes on the bass design dept, then actually put them into production ROFL

Street price is actually $1229 USD

The shape is a standard Gibson Les Paul Junior Double Cut design and the Pelham Blue color is usually found on limited run guitars and is considered a Custom Shop color.

I like the bass and the price, but Pelham Blue is not my color.

Looks basically the same as an SG to me, same scale, PU's, bridge, etc. I would like a pickguard and a different color and a lower price. If, (and I say if), I was in the market for something like this the SG looks better to me and has a better price.

Why does Gibson make so many short-scales?

Because they can't be bothered to make up an original bass shape, and putting a long scale neck on a guitar body makes it dive.

The only exception to this is the ripper/grabber/g3 which they bring back periodically and don't do them justice (Epiphone P/J Ripper? Seriously?) I imagine the board room at Gibson is something like:

D-Bag 1: I'm bored.

D-Bag 2: Me too... Hey, lets troll some bass players!

D-Bag 1: Yeah!

D-Bag 2: We'll make bass that sounds like it would be really f'n sweet, like a LP junior bass - but then it turns out to be a guitar body with a short-scale neck and EB3 pickups!

D-Bag 1: Yeah, we can even put that terribad EB3 bridge on it! Then charge >$9000 for one!

D-Bag 2: Then when they want a cheap bass, we'll release that Ripper Bass they love so much as an Epiphone - but with crappy P/J pickups so it's pretty much a cheap Fender clone!

D-Bag 1: Awesome! Those bass players are gonna be so pissed!

Money basses were cool...and cost way less then this...ahem...piece. Enen so, I remember them being unloaded at fire-sale prices, because they didn't sell, even at a more down-to-earth street price.

This new model is a major dud, IMO...
