Dunno, but he Fender Forum reckon they are gonna be Nitro finished, and a MAP $999, working out at 700 street, but thats more specifically the strat.
Supposedly tastefully done too,
I agree, but for some reason while the economy is in such great shapethese companies decided that their products were worth more.....expecially Fender.
I don't understand how they can justify the price increase when the product isn't any better than it was 3 years ago. Oh well, I guess there is still a demand or they wouldn't be able to get away with it.
Gas prices go up, so so does the prices of everything.
Fenders are a lot better than 3 years ago IMO and IME
I feel neutral on the topic of relic instruments, which basicly means, if I pick it up and it sings, then i'd have no problems if it was relic'd.
I think the whole relic lovers and relic haters debate is like arguing about clothes and/or musical interests...to each their own, not everyone has the same tastes. You certainly would not enjoy someone telling you that a bass you love/dig is stupid, so don't do it to others.

I can't wait till my strat gets worn out.. I'm sure playing it enough for it to get there.
i think most people commenting on the joe strummer tele know who he is... they just don't like the airbrushed "relic" job.
its not air brushed. its just super over reliced. that is the way joe strummer wanted it. gotta give the man what he wants.
The relic thing is lame, IMO.
If you want your guitar to look "played"......play it. A lot!
(and don't baby it like many players do)
What relicing is doing is: faking the funk.
And like Blackbyrd McKnight once said: "If you fake the funk, your nose will grow."
I've been known to take a bit of sandpaper to the fretboard or neck sometimes, but it is only to make the guitar *feel* a certain way.....I'm not trying to fool anyone with it's looks.
To each his own, tho'.....
I suppose if you just *had* to have one, you could pocket the extra cash the "Road worn" ones cost and just do the job yourself......that would be the smart thing to do,IMO, if you just *have* to have a prematurely beat up guitar.

I guess one could anticipate that this line might either go after famous player's basses (Jaco, Jamerson, Simonon, Dunn, etc.), or just classic instruments--P-bass, Jazz, Tele?

Gas prices are WAY down at the moment and continue to go that way. No matter what the company does or doesn't do in the way of product improvement it won't matter when people can't afford to even look at buying a bass. IMO nothing Fender has done in the last 3 years to their product justifies their price increases. Luckily for you, you have had better experiences with their basses than I have.
I wonder how long it will take the power companies and the grocery stores to realize this and then even more curious........what they're next excuse will be for jacking up the prices.

That telecaster looked horrid. The wear did not look real at all.

sorry to keep going OT, but... i'm pretty sure that thing was released well after Joe Strummer's death. and in person it looks and even feels like all the "relic-ing" is painted on, rather than sanded/aged/stained/polished etc.
either way, if the fender mexico factory can do a decent relic job on their basses, i'm all for it. there's clearly a market for it, and when done right, a relic can be fantastic, no matter how many say that they're lame.
case in point: nash guitars/basses. the nash tele i played was easily the best telecaster I've ever played, hands down. have yet to try the basses, but i've only heard good things, and i would definitely love to own a nash "68" jazz in three tone burst with blocks and binding....... if fender makes one of these for an affordable price i'd jump on it.
Didn´t you read what our mod wrote? C´mon man, there are some of us that want to know more about the BASSES and don´t want this thread closed.
