NEW "ROAD WORN" MIM FENDERS

Was yakking with the head the bass department in my local store today and he had just gotten back from a week touring the Fender factories in California and Mexico. He told me that the Mexican factory had 15 prototype basses slated for 2009 for them to look at and handle. They are going to be known as "Road Worn" somewhat like Custom Shop relics except for a lot less money. Apparently they were extremely light weight and beautifully built. I don't know the details but they are going to be in the $1000+ US range. Can't wait to see these babies as MIM's have been great recently. Anyway thought people might be interested...

1000 is a bit much for an MIM. Don't get me wrong great basses, but I don't know about that price tag.

I can see all the 14 year old kids buying the Sunburst Jazz basses so they can be like Jaco.

Sound cool but i agree a bit too much. MIMS are great for the money and my go to bass. My classic 50's P feels, plays and is built as good as any MIA and except for where its assembled is all USA. The price for the 50's classic and other re-issues were right were they needed to be but 1000 for a reliced look ...no way. We shall see and its great to hear new things are coming out.

Well you know he could be wrong but those are the numbers he quoted me today when I asked. I too was a bit taken aback as that puts them in the same price range as the 08 MIA's. I guess we will have to see what they actually will be when they are released but I too am always interested in any new stuff they do. Recently bought the Squier 50s Vibe P-Bass and it's awesome..

EDIT: Seeing that youre 15 too, might wanna watch what you say on the subject of teens.

600 is too low..the price of a geddy a few months ago ($850) seems more accurate

Wow. No one has tried one or even seen one yet, and we're making judgment calls on whether or not it's worth the money.

A fine instrument is a fine instrument, right?

$1000? Its amazing that one would shell out that kind of cash for a MIM bass when the used market gives you so much more for your dollar! Not a knock on MIM at all, but there are some great basses in that range used.

I picked up a near mint used 75 USA RI Jazz last month for less than that! You could get a used 62 RI for less than that too.

I agree with you there, but I thought we were talking about new basses.

Personally, I would rather buy the parts and put it together myself. However, I do find myself eyeballing the new MIM '70s Fender Jazz bass. Actually, a USA '75 reissue Jazz bass is in the top 3 on my GAS list..

Perfect. I could get one of these, and play it at a gig where I wear my pre-distressed denim jeans and play through a vintage amp modeling device.

Really, we need to bring a bass string to the market that is flat, dead, and thumpy, right out of the box to make this complete. Anyone want to throw in some seed capital?

I like the pricing for the higher end MIMS under $700. Most are in the low $600 range. I doubt anyone would really pay more for a good MIM if it is in the Classic line range just because it is worn or reliced some. The standard MIM is in the $400 to upper $300 range and again is decent for what you get if you look for a good one.
The new classic vibes are awsome better IMO then the VM series of squires. I was blown away when i saw that 60's CV jazz...WOW!

The poster is from Canada and could of been quoted in canadian dollars as well which would be about 20% higher than us right now.
