New Rouge Violin Bass 3rd string low volume and distorted buzzing

Hey Forums thanks for letting me join. I received new Rouge Violin bass for Christmas being 63 I wanted something lighter to play after many many years not playing. I plugged this thing end to little amp and tried to tune it once I got to the 3rd string I noticed how low the volume was and sounded a bit distorted went to 4th string solid volume along with the other 2 so there is something wrong with that 3 rd string wiring just not sure where to look. I sent a message to MF to see if I can return it for replacement but thought maybe someone other there may have a clue. So I figured just ask the community if there was an expert they will let me know. In the mean time I will reach out to MF and see if I can return it.

Thanks for and suggestions on something to check before returning it

Bill

Possibly a twisted string? Perhaps try loosening it a ton at the tuner and then pulling the slack down towards the bridge to see if it spins/unwinds when given the chance. Sometimes they get "bound or pinched"at the ball end when tuning up and can be so twisted that weird things may happen sonically. Could be a dead string from the factory as well. My Rogue VB100 strings got swapped out right away for a set of LaBella Beatle bass flatwounds. The tone and feel were improved night and day, IMO. Hopefully it isn't electronics related and just a string or setup issue. Good luck, because once these basses are set up and dialed in, they're pretty great sounding little thumpers!

Look and make sure the string is not buzzing against a fret, hard to tell not looking at it, they are pretty nice basses once setup correctly. Make sure all the strings are sitting properly on the bridge, but I’m sure it’s just a matter of getting it set up right. Are you familiar with doing a setup?
