New Schecter Riot Basses

Hey folks. Long time reader but new forum member here.

Question:

Has anyone seen; or better yet, actually played one of the new Schecter Riot Basses (4,5, or 6)?

Is it just me, or does anyone else think they look F'n SWEET? I went to the new website and did some reading:

- 35" Scale
- Neck Thru Construction
- Burled Maple or Wenge Top
- Top Load or String through body bridge

I'm pretty interested in getting my hands on one, but they are not yet being carried in any of the local Guitar Centers. I've seen them in a few guitar stores online. Unfortunately, Colorado and Massachusetts is quite a long drive for a "test drive"

Can anyone tell me...what's not to love?:bassist:

They should be HAWT! I love Schecters so much. (even though i don't own one) :crying: I recently played the new Stiletto Elite 5 and C-4 Custom. They were sweet. What's not to like?

BTW, i posted a little mini review for the basses. Search for: I played some of the new Schecters!

Read the post for some handy info.

I recently got to try one of these basses in a music store. It was a killer piece. The tone was very punchy and modern, as to be expected. The bass had a great feel (though it probably could have used a setup). The neck was very comfortable and the fretwork seemed really good. The top and body wood combination looks great, and I like how the top is cut so you can get a good view of the body wood from the front.

These are more money than a Stiletto Studio, so I assume that this is going to be Schecter's flagship model for a while. I really think they hit one out of the ballpark with the Riot. It easily competes with anything else in its price range or even things more expensive.

I'm probably going to wait until they're out on the market a little longer and pick a 5er up on Ebay.

If Amazon is to be believed, I should have a burl maple top 5arriving tomorrow on the brown truck.

I got an email this morning saying they expected to ship next week.
I got home from work this evening to find another email saying it shipped today and should arrive tomorrow. :hyper:

This one will be a first for me on 2 fronts, my first Schecter AND my first 35" scale.

EDIT: According to UPS, my bass is now in CT at the depot 2 towns away!!! YAY!

Well, the Riot 5 arrived on Tuesday the 10th!

Its a keeper!:bassist:
The ash body w/burl maple top is very nicely carved and contoured to be very comfortable.
The neck is comparable in width to my Carvin LB-75 but dont ask the string spacing-I dont know it! The neck is not quite as thin front-to-back as my ESP and its not as thick as my SX either. All in all, I find the neck to be a good fit for my hands and the satin finish on the neck also feels great!

Its a little heavy at approximately 9.6 lbs. It balances pretty well standing and its has a slight neck dive when sitting.

The whole instrument has a matte satin finish. I wish they would have done the body in a nice clear gloss to show off the burl maple top better. My top is a bit darker than the pic on Schecter's website and I like it just fine!
The ash in the body has a couple of unusual marks in it but ash is ash-pretty nice grain for a lighter colored wood.
The bass has a 5 piece neckthru with 3 substantial pieces of maple and 2 thin walnut stripes. Fretboard is rosewood.
The fret job was excellent and the bass was nicely setup right out of the box.

The bass uses passive EMG-HZ humbuckers and a 2 band eq.
I was able to get some good tones out of it at low volume at home, but the real test will come this weekend when I bring it to rehearsal.

The only issue I had with the bass is with the screws on the battery compartment cover. These screws appear to have threaded metal inserts and I darn near stripped out a screw head trying to open the compartment. No such problems with the control cavity cover-those screws go straight into the wood-no inserts here.

I'm also not crazy about the headstock but thats just personal taste. And its not THAT bad because I did get the bass anyway! :p

hi guys i'm from romania and i had spend my summer holiday with my oncle who's living in Orange County here i just bought a schecter riot 4 from guitar center . it was the last one and i was really glad to have it , it's really awsome the pickups are great , the wood is awsome to ,all it's awsome about schecter riot , until i start to have a problem. I'm not shure what's the problem , when i'm playing i can hear a zzzZZzzzzzzzzz in my amp which is a rumble 100 . And i don't know if it's my bass or my amp or my cable:bawl: can you help me? Thanks i'm weiting for your advice

So i just now came across this bass! i have been looking to get a six string, and have always liked schecters....but does anyone know why they are on clearance for 600$? i mean that price is readily welcome, but is there some unwelcome reason why it would suddenly be on sale for so much?

The Riot was redesigned (new finishes really), and the 6 was dropped. Either the store is getting in a new shipment of basses and needs to move the 6ers out or it's been in the shop for so long and they just want to see the thing go.

They are great basses though. I'm gassing for a black cherry 4 or 5.

Just picked up my new Riot 5 Wenge - played it all weekend. My first active, first 5 string. Wide tone range - yes it does "modern and yes, you can make it sound (almost) like my '65 Precision, but why would you try? Neck is comfortable, body beautiful. Frets perfect. String tension higher than I'm used to, probably due to the 35" scale. Fret spacing also increased for the 35" scale. I'm surprised that my hands have to get used to it. Love that low B. Love the bass. I look forward to what it will reveal to me.

i purchased the schecter riot 6 about 2 months ago and ive become very pissed about changing the strings on my bass. I dont know if im having the problem because of it being string-thru-body but none of the strings i buy are long enough. Im only having problems with the B E and A strings because of the way they are wound. Is anyone else having this problem? I've call schecter and they havn't been able to help me at all.
