Double Bass New Sloane Gears

Just got my bass back from the luthier's shop. Had him upgrade the tuning gears from plates to sloane gears.

I'm really pleased with the work he did. He inlaid new piece of maple and filled the old holes. The gears are really nice.

does anybody know if the weight of the tuners on a plate affect the sound of the bass?

See if you can find a thread about A0/B0 tuning (or something like that). The ultimate answer, having been through that discussion (as I understood it) is: maybe.
