Will be dropping the deposit on this tomorrow!! Inspired by the Mark Roberts bass shown here:

Here are the specs so far:

    Single-cut 8 string bass
    Neck through construction
    Purpleheart / maple neck
    34" scale
9mm spacing cen. to cen. @ nut
    17mm spacing @ bridge
    Black hardware
    Ash body
    Individual string saddles
    Aero pickups
    24 frets
    Wenge fretboard, no inlay
    Hipshot Ultralite tuners
    Urethane finish
    Passive electronics

Chris and I are still talking top woods.. I'd love to find some chestnut or light buckeye a-la Fodera.. It'll also have a matching headstock cap.

Updates as I get them.. ;)

Ah. Was not aware of that. All I recalled were some rumblings about GAS a few weeks back.

I'm actually a little surprised-I figured your two Conklin 8's satisfied all your multi-string needs other than a fretless. What's the big draw for you with this one-the whole new pickup/electronics config or just fun to try a new brand?

Well, it tends to accumulate until it reaches rupture point. ;)

Glad to hear its official Mark, I just wish my specs were all planned out too, I sure hope Bill has news this week :help:

January is the projected completion date... Maybe a little longer with the finish.. Chris says that usually tacks an extra month onto it.

Chris does a great job. He's only about 45 minutes away from here too.

I'm an addict, man!!! Addicts can't stop. No, if I ever get another fretless it'll probably be a fiver.. I just personally don't like the sound of the C & F string on fretless...

Seriously, I've saved over $400 since May!! All the money I had been spending on cigarettes now goes into the G.A.S. fund!! :hyper:

That's a wonderful looking bass. I have to admit, the 7,8 and 9 string basses still leave me a little bewildered, but when they're made to look as amazing as that, they're certainly a lot more appealing.

    Congrads,
    Chris makes great basses.
My fretless Stambaugh is my fav, bass right now.
Fretted 5-string will be my next bass by Chris.

That's neat that you are going with passive pups Mark, why did you decide that?.. I am very intrigued, since I dislike active electronics..

Wanting to experiment with something different.. I'm wanting a different sound than what I have and after some research, playing instruments and talking with many individuals I decided to go with a passive setup... If it doesn't turn out the way I like, I can always drop a pre in it at a later date... I'm really excited about the possibilities though.
