Laminated top, and back, and carved ribs? Isn't that an unusual combination?

  3. No. Lots of old German "plywood" basses had solid ribs because they were easier to bend than plywood.

Arnold has said that due to a production oops, the early Cleveland ply basses had solid ribs.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you using to protect those edges?

Don't mind at all.....Happy to answer questions.

Those are vinyl non-adhesive automotive door edging and available at most auto parts stores. Cut to size and warmed very (very) slightly (held 8" - 10" above kitchen stove top) becomes very plyable....Maintains shape and shrinks just a little when returning to room temp so stays put without any sticky residue. Prevents edge wear to both the finish, top, & back.

    Thanks for asking.

Does your bass have the 42" string length that most of these were built with? Thanks!
