I just got a 5 string stingray from a guy here on the forums. The bass is beautiful and plays great. My prior bass was a Fender Squier MB so i don't have much experience with these higher end basses. The tone of the stingray is something I've never played with before and the 5 strings are a totally new thing to me. I don't feel right playing the bass. Something doesn't feel right. Is it the fact that it's has a 5th string? or is it the new tone, thicker neck? Why do I feel this way!!! Has this happened to any of you before?

For the briefest period of time after I moved from a self-defretted Squier VM Jazz to a 5 string Gary Willis Bass.

I used to mute the E string on the Jazz by placing my thumb on it. When I moved to the Ibanez, I muted both E and B by placing my thumb on the E, with the side of my thumb against the B. It helped me to 'retain' my muscle memory somewhat. Of course, I'd move my thumb up to the B when I'm playing on the E string.

You might wanna try that?
