New strings: GHS Precision flats

I have had a set of LaBella DTFs (the Jamerson model) on a pbass for several months now, and I could not get the E string to sound right. Right out of the package, it suffered from the dreaded chorus effect, despite installing it correctly. Last week I took them off and installed a set of GHS Precision flats, and it's like a new world. They give me exactly the tone that I would expect from a P with flats, without the chorusing. Very happy so far...

Having tried them, for first time recently, I liked them. But they were on a second hand bass in E standard 45-105. For my needs I would like gauges 126 105 095 and 075. Single GHS strings are difficult to get in Australia. I can get the 126, but I would have to compromise and go for a 090 and 070 as part of the 55-105 set GHS 3050

I might do it. I might not.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised. What you're hearing is pretty much how a P-Bass with it's factory Squier Flats sounded - until 1982. Not as thumpy as you imagined, are they? The G, H, and S, are 3 guys that left Squier, and founded their own company. GHS Precision Flats are called that, because they're pretty much clones of the Squiers. Especially the 3025 set... Since I want my '78 P-Bass - with the foam mute in the bridge cover; the pickup cover; and the thumb rest - to sound like it did when it was new, of course it wears Precision Flats. And, so do some of my basses that wear short and medium scale flats...
