Just checking in to say hi to Talk Bass members. I'm a newbie to the site and a recent convert to the world of bottom end. A guitarist of nearly 30 years trying to reinvent myself as a bass player. I've had an old Peavey beater knocking around the house for a while, and shortly before Christmas decided to start paying it some proper attention. Well, I pretty much have fallen in love.
I was clunky at first, but have adapted real quick, and now feel more at home behind a bass after a few weeks than I have ever felt behind a guitar. I wish I'd done this 10, 20 years ago. Something about my fat fingers and fretboard size maybe. Something to do with always having been more into rhythm and groove than playing lead. I don't know. But what I do know is, I now want to make the bass my main instrument. I've put aside playing guitar in bands and am dedicating myself to learning bass chops from scratch, technique, scales, exercises up, for the next 12 months, then see where it goes from there. Talk Bass has been really useful from a watching and reading from the wings pov, but I figured it's time to jump in and swim in the bass pool.
Looking forward to learning from all you guys, and growing as a musician as a result.
Have just ordered my first decent bass rig - a Cort Artisan A4 and a Markbass Minimark 802 combo, and feel the morph from 6 to 4 strings happening daily.
