Skipping most of the previous comments (because I'm lazy) I use flats on all of my basses. I will be honest, I tried halfs on my Squier P-bass special (PJ) . Loved the sound, hated the feel. Put flats on and now I love the feel and hate the sound. I'll be trying labella next on that one. My SS Gretsch spunds best with rounds

Mt stepdad (gone now), moved from upright to electric, a '70s jazz. He always used flats. I have no idea what brand and it wouldn't surprise me if he never changed them.

Sound and feel. All you can to is try since it's all subjective
