My former band leader needs money - fallen on hard times, sadly - and is selling off some of his many instruments. He had this beautiful Ibanez BTB455 - trains black, quilted maple top, 35" scale, GREAT tone - that was the first 5-string bass I'd ever played and, after I left the band four years ago, was the inspiration for my own Carvin IC5P. Wanting to keep it in the "family", he offered it to me. Jumped at the chance, even though for what he asked for it I almost felt like I was stealing it from him.
The string spacing in this bass is wider than on my Icon fiver. I'm toying with the idea of stringing the Ibanez EADGC, and using this as my four-string substitute and for soloing. The Carvin has somewhat of a "darker" tone, which is better suited for the deeper droning I like to use for more solid bottom.
