Isaac - Great point, and to your question, I would not. This is the second time I've seen this channel pop up here on TalkBass. The problem that you point out with some of the details being wrong is that unless you're already a subject matter expert on the material, you have no way of knowing which details in the video are actually true and which are hallucinated. It's like buying a package of Oreos knowing that the factory that made them has a new, innovative (and very expensive) machine that makes Oreos incredibly quickly, but sometimes instead of creme filling, it puts toothpaste in between the cookies. They look the same as the others. There's no way to know until you bite into one whether it's a normal, delicious Oreo or a toothpaste sandwich.
Would you be willing to eat Oreos made at that factory?
Thanks, @HueyFreeman.AI is here whether we like it or not. Dumping on the OP and others is the path of least resistance to people's frustration about not being able to do anything about it.
I don't care if AI can cure hepatitis, it's not worth the trade. It's a huge net negative, philosophically, spiritually, economically, cognitively, environmentally and phenomenologically. It amazes me what people will give up for a splash of convenience that is instantly forgotten. (Ps I still like all of your posts on here otherwise)Just a side note - I use Gemini for research and it does a pretty good job. The best part is that it gives links to what it is referencing so if something sounds off, you can double check. The problem with the YouTube videos is that they are all about churning out content to keep eyes on the screen as long as possible to watch those ads. The cheaper you can do that, the more money you make.
"child labor is here whether we like it or not" "nuclear waste is here so we better learn to love it"AI is here whether we like it or not. Dumping on the OP and others is the path of least resistance to people's frustration about not being able to do anything about it.
I’m not promoting it, I’m not providing a direct link, I’m only citing further examples of this crap to alert other as to just how ridiculous this stuff has become, and to point out how distorted the examples of seduction can be. I’m not posting the actual video, in a “ha ha, ain’t this funny” kind of way. It’s more of a cautionary thing. I don’t think that ignoring it is the way to go, but rather, I’m suggesting ‘know your enemy’/‘this is how bad it’s gotten’.
By any chance, have you viewed this?
So this is presented as historically accurate, yet you acknowledge that it gets some names wrong, uses incorrect images, and has incorrect dates. You know, what we call inaccuracies.
Look around you. Distortions and outright lies have become the norm. An obscene percentage of people (I ballpark it at about 70% based on my daily interactions) live day-to-day in a world that is not objectively real, and they do so by choice. This isn't leading us anywhere good.
Does the history of a musical instrument manufacturer have bearing on the bigger picture? Yes, when it's one more thing that normalizes lies and the use of self-invented "facts."
You should be ashamed to be contributing to this by casually promoting things you admit are untrue.
@DuluthDank - Nice response to the previous post above. I couldn't have said it better. So giving people a warning about low effort, inaccurate AI produced content is now "casually promoting"? The moral grandstanding on this thread is wild. I didn't click OP's link, and with his warning, I now know not to should it pop up on my feed.
Thanks very much @Grooveline! I appreciate your kind comments and support.I look forward to your very real human made video. I'm sure its quality will be as good as the rest of the videos you have made.

this is all bad.It kills with coding. It's my "helper" not my "programmer" so I stay in charge and reel it in if it's going down the wrong path. So, you still need to know how to program, you just don't need to keep track of all the little things. Code is almost ideal for AI. It's essentially a a very structured language and there is thus less room for AI to hallucinate. AI in music is still just getting started. With coding, two years ago AI was pretty terrible but it has made gains quickly and I'm a convert. Remember when photos used to have the gnarly hands, so you knew right away what was AI what was real. I recently took a "Is it real or is it AI" headshot test. I couldn't tell the difference. With most video you can still tell the difference between AI and real, but AI is getting better. I like to reference things when I can. How do you do that when you can't tell the difference?
Hey Everyone -
So there has been a slew of "historical" Music Company AI generated videos added to YouTube recently, either posted by a Channel called "Industries From the Past" (which appears to be focused on U.S. based companies,) or by "Lost Industries" which is focused on what were originally U.K. based companies.
These videos are all clearly AI generated, and appear to gather subject matter from past articles, interviews or posts which appear on the internet (even Talkbass is referenced several times in this new video.) Words and names are inconsistently mispronounced, many images don't match the narrative and there can be many factual errors. In the case of the new Trace Elliot themed video, there are certainly many dates which are wrong, along with factual errors.
In all fairness it's not all bad, as even though not all of the details are correct, the overall story is fairly cohesive. It's a shotgun blast of information, but it must be taken with a grain of salt. Here's the link:
On another note, my next video (which I've been working on for several months) is all about the Origin story of Soundwave, Trace Elliot, Bassmate, The Bass Centre in London (and even Status basses get a mention!) NO "AI" is used my content creation. I expect the video to be launched within the next 30 days.![]()
King Crimson releasing the worst album ever on purpose my wife would definitely believe. I am never to take her to see KC or anything similar again!I’ve seen this garbage, all with graphics depicting factories in dire, apocalyptic condition. It’s a plague. Then there’s the “profiles” about musical artists with National Inquirer level provocative click bait titles, “now the truth can be told” crap. The thumbnail likenesses are ridiculous, beyond ‘artistic’ interpretation…this is supposed to be Robert Fripp, circa 1972….

How does that even look like Fripp? Sheesh.
It’s apparently about the live album Earthbound, by the Islands band line-up(with Boz Burrell). A decidedly lo-fi recording(on cassette off of a PA mixing board), it’s essentially a legit bootleg of that version of the band who had already broken up at the time of its release. As a result, album was offered at a very low price at the time, and not released in the US initially. Just a quirky thing, most Crimson fans know about it, but there’s no scandal or drama atrached to, you either listen to it as an artifact of a time period, or ignore it.
Then, similarly, this is Paul Revere and the Raiders? Really? “Paul” looks like Rutger Hauer.

Perhaps a tribute band of guys in their 40’s and 50’s, kinda look-alikes of just one line-up, but seriously?
What “went wrong” is that they had their run, had their hits, but like with a lot of bands, the times passed them by, and they became passe’. No big whoop. No drama.
The potentential for the distortion and/or elimination of history, even in this relatively esoteric(for the masses)realm goes way past the implications of Fahrenheit 451.
On another note, my next video (which I've been working on for several months) is all about the Origin story of Soundwave, Trace Elliot, Bassmate, The Bass Centre in London (and even Status basses get a mention!) In about a month you won't have to spend any time verifying the early history. So I can watch it then spend three days verifying if any of it is actually true? No thanks.
How is that any different than non-A.I. generated videos? So I can watch it then spend three days verifying if any of it is actually true? No thanks.
Also needs a fact checker imo…Listened to the vid while I did other chores. Common AI mistakes of repeating the same things multiple times over different chapters while also jumping through different times of the timeline. Its like research was done but not put into a coherent single timeline to make a streamlined story. AI seems to need a real human editor imo. I look forward to your very real human made video. I'm sure it's quality will be as good as the rest of the videos you have made.
