I'm retired from 35 years in aerospace, decided to take up bass guitar to help keep my mind active and learning. Already have piano, ukulele, guitar, and drum players in the family, and I played drums in jr. high school. Being a rhythm person bass was a natural selection.
Played a Taylor GS mini for a few months, then switched to a Fender MIM Geddy Lee jazz last year. Working my way through Ed Friedland's Hal Leonard Bass Method books, and picked up Band-in-a-Box as a starting point for ear training and playing with other instruments. Blues, jazz, R&B, a little funk are my favorites. Have spent a fair amount of time studying music theory as well.
Learning sure comes slower with age, and my fingers don't go where my brain tells them to. These new tricks are a challenge! But... not impossible.
