Double Bass NEW ULTRA-LIGHT & SMALL SPEAKER from Acoustic Image ** NEW VIDEO AT POST #125 **

I've ordered one of the Upshots. Can't wait to get it.

Hi Erik,
How did you get to order one of those? Did you speak with an EU dealer or straight to Acoustic Image in the USA?
I live in Italy, I’d like to try the Upshot but I thought that, since living on the other side of the pond, I’d have to wait for Thomann to show them up.
Thanks for your help, sorry for my English ;)
Stefano

I used the Upshot as an extension cab (coupled with a GB Shuttle 3.0) for an outdoor bluegrass gig yesterday in a large tent on a plywood stage (the plywood was just sitting on the ground, not built into an actual structure). Went d/o to mains and used my rig mostly as a monitor, basically. It was more than enough. Could have easily done it with just the head and the Upshot. As it was, it sounded great. No low-end rumble at all. Warm but detailed. My bandmates all noted how good it sounded. Looking forward to doing a test run in an indoor setting. It sounded amazing in my living room.

This is perfect. I want one for gigs this coming weekend. Where did you order yours? Gollihur doesn’t have them yet.

"I've been setting my amplification to the side of my cab since I went with a small cab. I use a low profile v-type folding guitar stand and set the amp facing up. Works great for me... about the only thing I need to access is the mute button between sets and I can reach that or any of the other controls easily.

Very interesting cab, looking forward to checking one out."

I'm having difficulty visualising this. Could you show us a picture of your amp on the stand or a link to a stand like the one you are using?

I use an Ultra stand, I've had it forever. The key is that it allows you to set the width of the legs. Built like a tank. Around 14" tall.

I've also used an old school Gruven stand...

... similar to this but for electric.

I have that Fender one too, it's pretty useless IMO. For electric bass or otherwise. Flimsy and basses easily fall off. Folding arms are too wide for micro amps.

My upshot was supposed to arrive tonight. Fedex messed up the way they always seem to in these parts. I'll have it tomorrow night so I can try it out at home before 2 back-to-back bluegrass gigs on Saturday, rehearsal on Tuesday and big polka gig the following week.

I'll report back. I can compare it against the little Genz-benz shuttle 8" cab and some of the other small 10" speakers I've tried.

I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions.

Edit: Rick from AI got in touch after seeing this post. Seems like there was a mistake with the upshot they sent me. He is going to exchange it for a new one. I've decided to take down the pictures and description of this first Upshot I received so there is no confusion.

Ok. Just got the upshot. It’s Tiny! The form factor is so really unique.

Sitting next to my genz 8” and my genzler 10” you can see just how small this speaker is.

I spent some time with it last night but only using my Rob Allen. I’ll update with first impressions after I got some play time with the upright at a gig tonight.
