Double Bass New Upton Standard!

I just bought a basically new 2017 Upton Standard. I got her yesterday from the previous owner who ordered her from directly Upton. He has an older Kay and he's been going thru some tough hand issues after decades of playing. The bass had the original spiros/set up etc and was in an almost unplayed condition. I've owned over 30 uprights and I instantly liked this one! HA! Nice Fat Neck which is a must for me. She is Very light weight and has a different feel and vibe from the Upton's I have played from their import period. I put an almost new set of Obligato mediums on her and she came alive under the bow. I'm a long time pro and I buy and sell 1 or 2 basses a year for fun and to always have something new to engage with. This one feels like a keeper! I'm quite happy to tip my hat to the Upton Gang.

Upton is such a great company to work with. They even took a mock article I wrote and published it on their page.

My standard is also serving me well, but I did develop a small buzzy area on the fingerboard, which was resolved by a luthier…although now it’s come back, so need a little bit more fine tuning.

Still, it sounds great and at some point I do intend to go back to Upton to upgrade, BUT…there’s really no need to. At all.

I just fitted her with a Krivo, bumped the bridge around and swapped the Obligatos for Helicore Hybrids as they work with the mag pickup...She's heading to a gig tonight!
Like g-dude, I have also been contemplating a Carved Upton monster of some type in the future since this girl is so damn cool. A young friend of mine is saving up for a 5 string Upton hybrid and I'm suddenly up for a road trip to the Barn when he's ready to go pick his bass up. Good Times!
