Brand new fretless 5-string semi-hollow hand-carved archtop bass from master luthier Joe Veillette in New York. Plays like butter, with beautiful versatile tones. Controls are master volume, piezo/magnetic blend, and passive tone control. You can go full piezo for a warm woody upright tone, all the way to full magnetic for a pretty straight-ahead electric fretless tone (more rounded than Jaco, and I think more versatile in a band mix). The blends in between the extremes are all very useful too, always mwahhhhh. It's just a super cool bass.

Sitka spruce arched top over poplar body, ebony fingerboard, and tailpiece. Ebony and wenge dovetail bridge. The neck is maple, with a really pretty subtle flame to it, doesn't show in photos well. This bass just feels all about the wood(s) when you play it. Everything just kind of sings in unison, if that makes sense.

Very sharply dressed overall with the black binding on the body and black hardware. Not a blemish or scratch on her.

17mm spacing at the bridge, 1.75" nut width, very comfortable to play. Just under 8 lbs 14 oz.

Over $5k new. Sorry, no trades. I bought this to replace another fretless Veillette I had from 2005, but in the end decided to stick with my old one instead of this beauty.

Just asking - I am guessing that maybe you could get a Steve Swallow "Citron" sound out of that? At least by the looks of it :) ?

Hmm, interesting question, and I'm not sure because it's been so long since I've really listened to him. Got a reference track that might be good to check for a rough comp?

Got a good question about the scale length and the strings looking longer. It's a standard 34" scale, and the strings are the 38-3/4" ball-to-silk LaBella black nylon tape wound, Standard Long Scale, #760N-CB.

I will throw in an extra set for the lucky buyer (though in my experience these strings really get better with age so I just leave 'em on for years). It's actually a 6-string set, too, so in theory you could use it two different ways. The set is .043 .060 .070 .094 .115 .135, and the heavy five are on there now (.060-.135). I usually prefer lighter gauge, but found these to be easy to play with perfectly balanced tension.

Got a PM asking about side position markers, and they are there at the "frets", 1 3 5 7 9 12 15 etc.
