Double Bass New Vektor

played using the Vektor at practice at home and with one of my bands last week. the sound coming out of the Vektor/Focus/AI Contra Ex rig was the sound of my bass, so imo better than with a pickup like the Realist, more natural sounding. it can get louder before feedback than some other mics i've used. as i work with the thing, i've learned there is a trick to getting it at just the right point between too loose and too tight. i am afraid to go too tight, i think it could dampen the top, as drurb suggested. too loose, and you have the possiblity that it can vibrate a bit and buzz when you pluck hard. one has to play around with it to find the right fit and optimum sound.

After endless nights of research, countless crates of beer and a lot of hazzle from the wife, I can finally offer something totally revolutionaryly new for this pick-up/mic.

Enough sales pitch. A lot of you have asked if it's possible to use the phantom power on your amp (24 or 48 volts) to run the Vektor pick-up. Well, now it is. I can offer an adapter which converts the phantom power on XLR to the required 9 volts you need to run the pick-up. I also changed the internals of the pick-up, so that I get more output which eliminates the need for any pre-amplification.
The adapter comes in two different versions. One is XLR to 1/4" jack which you can plug straight into the XLR socket on your amp and connect the pick-up from your tailpiece jack socket via jack to jack mono lead. The other version is XLR to phono for all those of you who would like to keep the option of using the on board preamp open, your pick-up gets a phono connector and you can either use the on board preamp with battery or have the adapter and connect to your amp via a XLR stereo lead.
A full overview of the options will be available on my website hopefully soon, for the time being I'll try to answer all questions here as quick as I can.

I guess nothing good is ever easy.

Just to clarify, Tobias, I've got the first version you mention (phantom converter with a straight jack cable to the Vektor, XLR out to the amp's phantom supply). Very happy with that. I don't have a Vektor preamp, just use the amp's EQ.

Does the second version you mention involve a second preamp you attach to the tailpiece?

The new phantom power converter is all you need now, provided you have phantom power on XLR on your amp. No need for pre-amps any more.
And it will work with the older versions of the pick-up, as long as the pick-up is not wired into the on-board pre-amp. But even then it is possible to just clip off the cable and solder a 1/4" jack socket to it, or fix a phono connector to the end of the pre-amp and use the pre-amp if you need to.
Anyone using the pick-up with or without on board pre-amp and would like to use the phantom power of your amp instead, please contact me for options.

Would a jack socket on the tailpiece be ok?
Then all you need is the pick-up, ending in afore mentioned 1/4" jack. From there you have a normal mono cable jack to jack running into the new adapter which has a 1/4" jack socket on one end and the other is XLR which goes into your phantom powered XKL on the DI box or pre-amp.
Nothing else needed.

does anyone have sound clips of the Vektor (current version not the inside the foot version)? i tried the clips on page one of this thread but the links didn't work, thanks in advace anyone!
