Hey gang! I just got home from picking up a monster! I grabbed this Sunn 18 inch cab for literally free. Still has the original cover with it too, bonus! The speaker is pretty well shot, it makes sound but anything below about a C farts out pretty bad and it’s easy to see why. The cone is essentially rotted away. Rest of the cabinet is in great shape. I think this is an early seventies model, maybe a coliseum? It has the speaker mounted from the inside not onto the front baffle. I am excited to replace the speaker and see what this mammoth can do, until then, I’ll clean it up and admire it’s coolness. Any speaker suggestions for a replacement?

They guy said it was his dads and had been in storage for a very long time. It looks like the speaker was stored in the elements lol, it’s destroyed compared to the rest of the cab.Good grief! That poor speaker.
Many used those 18" cabs with the Coliseum heads. The cabinet looks great. Likely a CTS speaker!!?? Recone it and put it to work. Nice score!!
Find a reconing service that knows exactly what you have and can get the correct replacement parts to do it properly. Reconing is difficult.
The original speaker in those was a Cerwin Vega . Looks like the original was replaced . Nice looking cabinet .
I’ll take the back off and see what the speaker says. The guy told me he thought it was a Vega but couldn’t be sure.
I had a Coliseum rig in the 80's. It had 2 of those cabinets. I once had a bartender ask me to either turn down or turn the cabs in a different direction as they were rattling the wine glasses in the overhead racks.

if you can find a re-cone specialist that has a kit for this particular speaker, you wouldn’t have to go through all the mathematic calculations to prevent potential speaker failure or cab inefficiency. It will probably be less expensive than buying a new speaker.
