New Villex Pickups and Passive EQ

Indeed. After emailing with William today, I've decided I'm gonna opt for waiting a little bit so he can ship me the system with the detented pots. Hopefully not too much longer.

I just wish that the bass and treble were stacked, but that's because I was aiming for 4 knobs. Vol, 4-way selector, mid, stacked bass/treble. But I can live with 5 knobs.

Do you know if pricing has been finalized? I need to get an order in. Probably better to wait until after NAMM, I'm sure they're busy.

:) That's why the low B is so full

IMHO Villex pickups have more narrow peak in the mids. They will cut better in a mix but Barts will lay more solid foundation. YMMV of course :)

I do not hear the same. What is the system that you listen through? To my ears, the NVT B string sounds fuller than the Bart esp in the flat and full settings. And I hear the mids clearer (not notched or peaked as a Jazz bass is)

The best way that I listen to the nuances of the NVT is through my iAmp800, 4x10" & tweeter and the EBS 615 (1x15"). Even though I use the Adam A7 reference near field monitors with my PC the true picture comes apparent through my rig

fullrangebass, William tells me he's just about ready to ship me the new Villex NVT system with detented EQ pots! Very excited about this and will post reviews after I've had a chance to use it a bit.

cybersnyder, William says he's working on a stacked option. I strongly suggest you contact him...he's very accommodating to customers' requests.

Hi Marcus

I am waiting for my next set of NVT as well. I am really interested of your opinion as soon as you receive them. I respect your opinion and you are one of the few people that are truly aware of Villex "Classic" and their performance

I appreciate that.

I think Villex is really on to something truly different, and is starting to get the notice he (IMO) deserves. I think we may be seeing a lot more of his pickups out there in the future.

Another thing that gets me going about the new NVT system (as if passive 3-band EQ isn't enough) is greatly improved pickup blending; something he and I talked about:

"new vol control system will give you better pickup mixing...on regular passive basses vol mix work more like a switches...With NVT you will have the chance to blend them passively in the way that they will interact to each other"

In other words, the benefits of active mixing with the tone of a passive system. Something I would not have even thought possible, but Villex has forced me to rethink what is possible with passive systems.

In the NVT I'm expecting, I'll use the vol/vol configuration. On the one I have I have used a 4ps rotary switch (going against Villex' suggestion for vol/vol). I am really happy with my choice, but I feel that I should listen to the mastermind of Villex electronics and follow his advice. I'll let you know as soon as I receive my new pair and check on the vol/vol approach

Arrived today! :hyper:

Gonna be a little tricky since the bass I wanna put them in needs some stuff done to it before it will be ready, but I'm hoping within a week or 2 it'll be ready. Nice pre-wired harness that seems to be a simple setup.

Detented EQ pots too! Yeah, baby....

Just noticed this post. I'll do that. Thanks!

I just had William made me some custom pickups for my Ibanez SR405QM. I actually removed the original Ibby pickups from the plastic covers and posted the covers only to him. He put some Villex units in these original covers and epoxied the whole thing shut. I am wiring it in with an Aguilar OBP-2 along with the passive Villex mid controller. William has been great to work with and was happy to help me out with this custom order. He always answers email quickly and is great to deal with. I'll post back once I get it all together!

Got the new system installed. Gonna be using it in the show this week, and after I've had a chance to really tweak and get used to it, I'll be posting a review FWIW.

First impression: Very cool. EQ works as advertised and pickups are quiet and can be blended like an active system.
