everything I buy is used ... with the gas pains running rampant most items will hit the market simply due to changing tastes or circumstances ... and likewise, if mine change and I have bought right, I will recoup my expense for the next item ... this philosophy has allowed me to 'try' a lot of gear that I otherwise could not have had I bought new ...
with that said, very good new buys do come along if you are watching, and aware of the market ... a couple that come to mind that I took advantage of were the Carvin B800 head that was greatly reduced at the end of its discontinued run, and the Yamaha BBT-500H and their dynamite little BB-110 cabs ... those items still sell for now (used) what they sold for brand new, and in the case of the Yammie 110 cabs, they are now selling used for MORE than sold for new ... and most recently, was the Fender Hwy One price match deal here, that had basses selling for between $4-500 NEW ... so it all depends is the short answer to your question ... resale is always a concern of mine, tastes and needs always usually change ...
