Tried out couple of the "new and improved" rock bass models last weekend at GC.
4 string $$ was surprisingly nice. Very light weight, comfortable neck, great sound. Electronics were really quiet. Does have a push / pull series and parallel option for each pickup which gives a lot of tonal variety. Only down side was 850 price tag.
I also tried a 5 string passive jazz style model (corvette basic 5?). Was not as impressed. Fret work was not as good, sound was only so so. Each pick up had its own tone control. Overall didnt really get a warwick vibe from it.
FWIW, both basses out performed the fender MIMs I compared with.
