New york bass shop?

If you can take the time to get over to Brooklyn, I highly recommend a visit to Roger Sadowsky's shop. You can play their basses through a wide variety of amps in a private room for as long as you want. It's a really worthwhile experience.

Rudy's on 48th street and the Sam Ash has a suprisingly nice selection of Fender custom shop basses. Last I heard Manny's was going out of business, are they still open?

Also Matt Uminov down in the village. When I was in guitar Center on 14th they had the same dumpy selection as the GC in Madison WI

Manny's current state (whatever it is) is no longer the Manny's That Was Awesome. IMHO, don't bother.

Rudy's has some impressive stuff but the prices to match. If you can get someone to unlock the "bass room" try as many as you can.

Sam Ash is Sam Ash... some nice stuff I but I didn't find anything extraordinary when I was there.

I haven't been to any other stores recently but I wish you good hunting!

You gotta go to Manny's on 48th Street

Manny's is gone. It was bought out by Sam Ash years ago, and just this past summer they turned Manny's into a full blown Sam Ash. But THis sam asdh has a decent bass selection.
There is also Rudy's just across the street. They have a more exoitic selection. Also, alot of vintage basses. Both store on on 48th Street. Just off of Time Square.

I'd go to the alto music in the city. I haven't personally been there but i have been to their shop in wappingers (its 15 minutes from my house) and the one in middletown both stores have an amazing selection of basses and a very helpful staff. and if the one in the city is any similar you'll have a very good time there.

IMO most guitar shops are lacking in the bass department - Uminov, Ludlow Guitars, 30th St. They're cool to browse though. Check out Rudy's new Soho store for sure, I've heard it is amazing. Sam Ash (ex-Manny's location, RIP) was recently renovated and decently stocked last time I went - MTD, Spector, Sadowsky - and probably your best bet for range and selection.
