New York Pro Basses?!?

Did a little google and didn't really find anything. I am looking for a 5-string and found NEW 5-string basses by New York Pro for $160 on ebay? That's freaking cheap, but not really sure about how they will actually sound.

I never had a 5 stringer but I had a 4 string Pbass that I got off ebay about a year ago. They are good basses and sound decent but like all cheap basses its the pickups and hardware that lack quality. The body was nice, not too heavy but not light and cheap feeling either. Mine had a maple neck which has stood up in time although its nothing like a mighty mite or anything. I replaced bridge and pickups and played with it on and off for about 6 months and after those mods the bass played and sounded just as good as anything that cost 2-3 times as much. I mean if your a tone obsesser I guess this wont be your cup of tea, but if you just want a good bass to play some straight forward music then it will do fine. I would still have it if my son didnt claim it and use it in his punk band.
Just my 2 cents.

One of the local stores carries them. Having played the New York Pro, and having owned an SX, I would absolutely recommend the SX.

Reminds me of people standing on the streets of NYC selling watches. Yesterday I just ordered a Fender P V for over $1200
so maybe I made a mistake ?

I haven't tried them, but I stick to this philosophy:

If it says "pro" in the name, it probably isn't.


Could be a great bass, but I would look at the SX/Ursa's as well, like many have said. I've owned/rebuilt several, and they are pretty darn good quality for the cash.

i've played on these basses before when i was in high school. honestly they are crap u pay for what u get. if i were u i would just get a squire bass they are a couple of bucks more but its worth the money if u are looking for a cheap bass.

I made a stupid leap and picked up a used Traben Kore 5-string.
Like so:

Don't know if the Traben is good, but I know John Cooper from Skillet plays a Traben Phoenix.

The Traben is most likely better than the "Pro" bass.

Like Dark Horse said... if it needs to say the word "PRO" on it to be nice... then it sure is NOT!
