Double Bass Newbie microphone question

Hello - I'm very new to upright. In fact I just got my first one (a used Romanian instrument) last weekend. I bought a used microphone from eBay, a Sony ECM-150 Pro Condenser Lavalier Microphone. The seller indicated that he had used it a pickup for his URB on some jazz gigs. I dangled the mic over my bridge and plugged it into my small mixing board and put my headphones on and I have to say it sounds pretty good. I'm thinking about running the mic into my Sansamp DI box and maybe even my Boss CS-3 to see/hear how it sounds. I got this mic for pretty cheap, so if it works out at all I will be pleased. Anyway, is using a lavalier mic in this fashion a bad idea? Any advice on how to get the most out of it? Eventually I'll get a real pickup, but this seems like a good start.

Thanks!

Mike
