Newbie needing Amp Advice

Hey All,

I am a newly converted bass player from guitar. I currently have a MIM Jazz Deluxe w/Badass II and a MIA Jazz with the S1 switch. My amp is an Ampeg BA-115. I have not had this amp yet for 30 days and my return window is coming up. I am just not impressed with this amp. It sounds really muddy to me. There are a complete array of tone selections, but I am having troubles dialing it in. I am considering returning it and looking to upgrade it at the same time. I welcome all suggestions here. I kind of had my eye on the Gallien-Krueger Backline 600/Goldline 4x10 Stack. I am looking to stay around $750. Thoughts? Thanks.

It's usually best to trust your ears I think. If your budget is $750, you'll be able to put together a very solid amp for yourself, especially if you look around in the used gear market. Some of our pals here have been a little hot and cold toward the Backline gear from G-K, but they've got plenty of good equipment around.

I ended up with the Goldline 500 and GLX 4-10 cab. Only about an hour run through it since I brought it home, but so far just what I was looking for. A little more than what I wanted to spend, but not upset about that.
