Boy! It feels so good to be in a community of bass players. I am a newbie in every sense of the word and wondered if I could call upon the more experienced of you in your pickup knowledge please. I am doing a project. Will be turning a jazz Bass copy fretless and have been in a bit of a quandry about what pickups I need to achieve a warm vintage bass sound suitable for a jazz trio playing standards (that don't require me to sell off members of my family to afford them!). I love the sound of Jaco's playing. I saw these on the net for £115 which is my absolute top limit and liked the idea of larger magnets if it gives a warmer tone. They are Heaussel BigMag Jazz Pickups <adamovic.nl> does anyone here have them fitted or know anything about them? or may I please have your reccomendations for pickups.
