Newbie Recording questions: EQ

Nice looking bass. You should be able to make that MIM P bass sound good with its stock pickups. The "thud" tone could be more of a product of the strings you're using and/or the foam pad you're using. Those two things are going to make more of a difference to your tone than switching out the pickups, in my opinion.

Sorry about that, that is correct. I'm using channels 9 and 10 switched to instrument - direct in with a 1/4" cable.

Second question, I just upgraded my practice Rumble 40 amp to a Rumble 100 - with the 12" speaker and extra headroom I'm really getting a nice sound out of this bass. I really need to just take the time to dial in the correct combination of amp, settings, and playing technique. Then take that knowledge and apply it to recording.

Thanks on the bass compliment, I've always liked the ZZ Top Dusty Hill bass look...

Really appreciate the feedback...

I use a DI so I can split the signal to my amp.. actually my recording chain uses 3 pres on the interface and looks like this now, because it allows me to play with a blend of tones and record a couple good direct tones:

Bass -> RNDI into channel 1; Thru-> Mesa WD800 -> Post-EQ DI -> Channel 2; Preamp Send on the Mesa WD800 to my Boss GT1000 return 1 with an IR loaded, reverb, etc -> Channel 3(either through another DI out of mono 1/4, or take stereo SUB outs into Channel 3/4 depending on FX)

In my headphone mix while recording I’m using mostly the tone out of my multiFX, as it will sound like an “amp in the room” with the right IR and a touch of reverb. Channel 1 sounds like a good DI track, channel 2 has a good preamp sound, channel 3 has a good amp sound.
