Newbie set up question

Hi! New to the bass world, and have question for the more experienced bassists here.

I received a Fender Player jazz bass, and immediately noticed that the E string plays a lot louder than the other 3 strings. Way louder.

I put on a new set of strings, and have the same problem. I tried the bass with a friends amp, same problem, so it looks like it might be a set up issue?

Any suggestions about where I should start looking at the way it's set up?

Yes, this should go in the Repair section, where there is lots of information regarding the proper way to setup your bass. It's not very hard to do yourself with a minimum number of tools.

Check the height of the strings over the pickups, especially at the E string. This article from Fender explains how to set up your bass.

Yeah sounds like that. You could try lowering the pickup height below the E.
