Newbies: Lower your action!

Hi everyone, and seasons greetings.
I'm a new player making progress, but a loooong way to go. Recently trying to learn Buddy Miles bassline from Them Changes - and its pretty fast for me. When I get up to speed (almost) its clanky and buzzy - very messy. After smashing my fingers against this for a while, I decided to look into lowering my action - turns out it was pretty high, and lowering was easy and resulted in a much better feeling instrument - after a solid year of playing!
Moral of the story: new guys, don't be afraid to tinker a bit (within your limits, obviously) with your instrument - you may learn that raising or lowering the action suits you!

Yes, IME low action definitely helps my fretting hand play faster, more cleanly, and more smoothly. On the other hand -- literally :) -- using a soft touch helps my plucking hand do the same. The harder you "dig in" when plucking, the more effort is wasted and the longer it takes to get recover from plucking one note to move on to the next.
