Hello to all. Another guitar player here (for many years, but perpetually stuck at intermediate level).
This fall I started playing bass after being asked if I play bass by the leader of a Lithuanian folk band in which I've played guitar at an annual weekend event. The gig went well and since that I've started to play bass in a couple of contra dance pickup bands that I play dances with once or twice a month. I'm enjoying providing the low end for the dancers.
Thanks to reading this board, I picked up an Ibanez Talman TMB30 (short-scale is really so much easier for me to play), set up with D'Addario Chrome flats. I had a Carvin MB210 (bought several years ago) but that started failing, so over the weekend I purchased a Rumble 100.
The contra pickup bands I play in are large (over 20 musicians) - everyone plays acoustic instruments other than the keyboard player (the better musicians are miked). To DI into the PA I have a Sansamp ParaDriver, an MXR m81, and a Countryman 85. So far I've only used the Sansamp with the bass. I also have a Strymon Deco and Flint for fun (yes I have a weakness).
