So the journey of the dye, finish of the body of this bass is almost over! I must say that the process of taking a very light piece of wood into the dark side was long... Trans Tinting was a cool process, and I learned one important thing.. When going for a burst with black on the outside, definitely dye that part of the wood black. I decided to do this way too late, and found myself taking some black spray paint to hide some of the not so great visible light spots on the outer sides of the bass.
Anyway, enough talk, here she is:
I always wanted a bass that resembled an old violin.
Few quick questions if anyone has time:
1. I finished it with a bunch of coats of Behlens Instrument Laquer, and the last coat isn't shiny smooth.. Can I still go to it with the wet sanding, buffing now, or should I get a thick shiny coat on there.
2. There was one spot on the backside lower bout where cracking occurred. I sanded that back a lot and re-coated it, but can still see a little glimpse of the cracks... Can I get that under control or gone with a later on application of CA, or poly? I've got MinWax wipe on, and all kinds of CA. I'm not looking for perfection on this as it'll be a bass I keep for many sentimental reasons.
