NGD! AKG K240 Headphones

New Gear Day!
Got me a brand new set of AKG K240 headphones. Super excited to try these out! I read through the thread in this forum on the best headphones for bass and compared a lot of reviews and prices. These were by far the best option for my budget. Taking into account that I'm partially deaf in my left ear as well, so there's that. Ultimately I chose these and the wife agreed that the price was low enough to okay the purchase. I got them via the Amazonians for the same price listed on the website link above.

Now I just gotta find some time to try them out. Stupid day job and married life.

That's what I use, they work well. Do get a bit warm on the ears for long wear, but that's true for most closed-ear style phones.

as they are "reference" cans: they will be 'flat' (no coloration) throughout the frequencies. this confuses a lot users who expect a 'colored' aural experience instead of appreciating the lack of one! they are excellent for mixing/mastering or for 'diagnostics'. they have been a standard for pro use for over 40 years! and they're the cheapest option available for serious audio work.

It means they are not "noise cancelling", so you can still hear when someone walks up and starts talking to you.

Well, noise cancelling is a whole 'nother layer of tech on top of the headphone type. Semi-closed means just that - mostly closed with some ventilation, but they still get warm. Though yeah, I wouldn't count on being able to hear someone who walks up and starts talking to you while wearing them...

Well, I can say, my wife walked up behind me and I heard her footsteps across the carpet and heard her chuckle. So I could hear that much.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm wondering if anyone can comment on how well these work for practicing. I have an old pair of Audio Tronics ATH-M30s and a pair of Scarlett HP60 mkii that came with my Scarlett Studio interface. Both of these sound poor to me for practicing, both through through the headphone jack on my amp and through the computer with Ableton Live 10 or Garage Band. The main complaint is the lower notes break up way too quickly. Are these K240s going to deliver clean bass notes or will it just be $70 down the drain? Any suggestions on other models in the $70-100ish range?

I'm pretty satisfied with the bass response on mine, but I'm not sure I know what you mean by "break up way too quickly".

Thank You. Basically it sounds like the farting out. Too much bass for the little speakers in my current headphones to handle even at lower volume.

Ah well the K240s don't do that at all, in my experience, and I do listen fairly loudly.
