How is Winnipeg screwed? Am I missing something from the chart in your link? Miles traveled for 2013-14 isn't even in the top five most.

Just a general comment on how they supposedly would get out of the Southeastern Division Eastern Conference and move to the Western Conference to ease up on travel when the whole realignment thing was done. Well, they just picked up a couple thousand miles by moving west.

They're still in 9th place out of 30 teams, even if they aren't in the top 5. Maybe I just shouldn't have used all caps?

As far as who really got screwed, top three for increase in travel:

San Jose - +13,618
Boston - +8,619
New Jersey - +4,554

Who made out:

Florida - -7,615
Detroit - -7,541
Los Angeles - -7,159

Average - -175 miles

Well, All I know is I appreciate SUNDAY NIGHT Playoff games that won't end at 2:30 AM. I really believe they'll be a better playoff team (which is saying something, they took the champs to 7 games) without the travel. The playoffs are so grueling anyway, and teams don't have the depth they use to have. It's bad enough just dealing with the schedule and the injuries, but having to deal with Jet lag too just gives the West Coast teams a big home edge.

I'll miss the Chicago rivalry, and maybe St. Louis (who we had some epic playoff series with). But the rivalry with the Avs was a joke. I suspect that the Detroit-Pittsburg and Detroit-Toronto (a great historical rivalry), plus Detroit-Tamba Bay with Yzerman in TB will more than make up for the difference. And not having to play the good awful Blue Jackets 500 times in a season is a good thing.

The Pens have made a few "under the radar" signings of the younger guys on the roster. I like the signings so far in Jeffrey and Bortuzzo. The one I am most excited about is the goalie Hartzell. I watched him when he played for Quinnipiac. If he can step it up this time around, he'll be ready to take over for Voukon and the Pens can move Fleury. Or maybe he can be the motivation to get Fleury back to his 2009 form.

Only one year left for Vokoun and he's getting old. Hoping Hartzell pans out gives Fleury some competition.

Really glad they signed Bort. I thought he didn't get enough ice time last year and would have rather seen him over Engelland in the playoffs. Solid D man with good talent and isn't afraid to throw down. I could see him being some kind of stay at home D man/enforcer being a good pairing for some of the more offensive guys with the occasional offensive contribution.
