NICE RACK!!!

I have decided to build a rack mounted bass amp system. I am seriously looking at Eden amps, the WT800, WT1250, or the WT 1550. I was also going to stack a BBE sonic maximizer although today I have read some negative stuff about the BBE, burning up headroom and creating too much of a booming sound. Maybe I should consider Aphex equipment instead? I am also including a Tech21 Sansamp RBI preamp. is there anything that I am missing or that I should be looking at to include in mt rack? I don't want to find out later that I should have included other equipment in the rack. By the way I really appreciate the response that you Talkbass members give to these topics and threads, way more than Fretplay and other forums. I hope that you fellow Talkbass members can help me put together a killer bass rackmounted amp. Thanx

I'm also thinking about building a rack. Maybe if I list what I'm thinking of putting in it will give you some ideas.

8 space rack

3u for my SVT 5
1u open underneath amp for ventalation, maybe a grill
1u for a stereo EQ
1u for digital tuner
1u for rackmount Sansamp DI (Maybe the same thing OP is talking about)
1u for furman conditioner with lights

Then I'm going to mount some cooling fans in the back behind the amp to get some air moving to the side vents.

Just what I'm thinking of building. Hope it gave you some ideas.

Personally, I've had big heads (SVT4, 5, 400+, DB750, etc) in big racks with tuners, power conditioners, wireless, compressors, etc. I've found it much easier to have the head in one rack by itself and all the other stuff in another rack. Much easier to move, etc... I just have all the hook up cables in the effect, etc rack pluged in on that side and labled on the other to attached to the head. Takes 10 seconds to plug all the cables in to the head. It's the way to go, trust me!!!

Im doing that, having a seperate rack for the extras, also because the heat of the SVT-II wouldnt be good for anything above it, and because its heavy enough on its own! :p

Get a power director so you don't have a rat's nest of power cables.
Then just add a nice 1200 watt per channel power amp like my Yorkville A4.4 or a QSC PLX 3402 to your RBI. ALL you need to blow doors off hinges. Very few amp "heads" come close, espescially for the money spent and if you don't like the RBI (I certainly do) then just switch out for another pre amp.

if your gunna go with a pre/power amp set up your gunna gobble up spaces really fast. i have a 4 space rack and its heavy. all i have is my ampeg head, a tuner and a wireless in the middle.

id say you for sure need a tuner, whatever your gunna use for your head, and anything else is prefrence. i use a power strip to save space from using a power conditioner which i dont think is necessary. some people sware by them.

if you use a wireless that mounts thats another half space, mine doesnt mount so i can take it out and throw it on top of the rack if i need to use the other space.

some things you might want to concider:

multi effects unit(pod, v-amp, sans amp)
compressor
maximiser(is it maxamizer?)
noise reducer(dont really need it for bass)
extra eq's
tube simulators
reverb unit

you get the idea, try to keep in mind the size of the unit and if your gunna carry it around or not. id try to avoid things you dont need cuz the weight adds up fast.

I was like you at one point -here's a killer rack setup

1)QSC PLX Power Amp/Stewart 2.1
2)Demeter/Kern/Aguilar/Alembic Preamp (or you can go with the eden stright amp)
3) DBX 160a Compressor
4) RBI Sansamp
5) Monster 2 space power conditioner
6) BBE SM or Aphex 204 -(I would suggest the BBE)
7) Funk Logic Rack Panel
8) Korg 2000 Tuner
9) Rackmount wireless/looper
10) Rack Shelf for music books
11) Rack drawer for strings, ear plugs, cable, etc...
12) Random rackmount LED lights
13) Parametric EQ
14) Effects Processor

All you need is a 20 space and the Hulk as a Roadie
